A programmable calculator with 544 bytes of RAM and a very basic version of BASIC programming language inspired Omar to computing. He has a Bachelors in Avionics Engineering, Masters in Information Technology and a PhD Computer Networks. He currently leads global technology teams delivering large scale financial systems. He has previously developed software for defence, logistics and telecommunications.

Omar is passionate about technology education at all levels, from primary education to professional levels. He has given talks and run workshops on the subject. Additionally, he has mentored and coached university students and professionals.
