Stephanie Kwolek

She invented the first family of synthetic fibres which was five times stronger than steal. It was called Kevlar. Due to her invention a new field of polymer chemistry quickly arose.

Kevlar is used to make more than 200 every day items, including tennis rackets, skis, parachute lines, boats, airplanes, ropes, cables, bullet-proof vests, car tires, firefighter boots, hockey sticks, cut-resistant gloves and armoured cars.
