To help address the STEAMD (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Arts and Design) skills shortage in the UK, and to inspire the next generation of young women, as well as push for economic empowerment and inclusion through technology, Unilever and iamtheCODE.org are joining forces to host a series of events related to United Nations Sustainable Development Girls’ hackathons across the UK. The Kingston event will take place on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th of October 2018. The event will be held at Unilever House: 3 St James's Road- KT1 2BA

60 girls, aged 11 to 18 years from the most disadvantaged communities of Kingston, are invited to learn about the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, practice Design Thinking, explore the Kano Computer Kit, the iamtheCODE iDEA Curriculum, compete and create with technology and code. The event is aligned with Unilever’s vision of a new way of doing business – which is one that delivers growth by serving society and the planet. Preferably we would like teachers and parents to accompany the girls. All food and transportation will be provided.

Hackathon Objectives

By the end of the two days session, attendees will:

• Decode the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and understand key indicators
• Build solutions based on the Tracks and Challenges
• Be educated and informed about the Global Goals and invited to take
  individual actions.
• Use the power of Arts to design the Goals.
• Get hands-on the iamtheCODE Design Thinking framework to build
  technology solutions: Empathy, Define, Ideate, Prototype, Test
• Collaborate and co-create to build more tech solutions with local partners.
• Work with marginalised communities to build apps, present or prototypes that
  can be presented on the day.

Prizes: Computers Kits, Tee shirts and other goodies
